Financial independence calculator
Find out how much you need to cover your spending from investments, and how long it takes to get there.
An estimate, not an offer or a recommendation. Actual terms depend on the bank and on your situation.
How it's calculated
The target is your yearly spending divided by the withdrawal rate. At 4% you need 25 times yearly spending. The rule comes from studies of US historical data, in which a balanced portfolio usually lasted 30 years at that pace of withdrawal.
Everything is in today's money. That is why the return is the one above inflation: if you expect 7% a year and 3% inflation, enter about 4%.
The 4% rule is not a guarantee. For a period longer than 30 years, or for more safety, many people use 3% or 3.5%.
